For Tenants

How Rentmigo Works

Secure your tenancy in just a few simple steps

Need a UK rent guarantor? Rentmigo makes the process easy. Whether you've been invited by your landlord or you're introducing Rentmigo to a landlord yourself, our online application can be completed in 5-10 minutes.

Once approved, we'll act as your rent guarantor, helping you secure your tenancy without needing to ask a family member or friend to guarantee your rent.

How it works

Here's how it works

Getting started
1

Create your account

Start by creating your Rentmigo account using the invitation link. This must be sent to you by your landlord or letting agent as they have to fill in the initial details first, but if you come across us yourself, you can simply ask them to supply the information needed to generate the link.

Then, we'll ask for some basic information including:

  • Your name
  • Date of birth
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • A secure password

Once you've created your account, we'll send a verification code to your phone to confirm your identity.

2

Tell us how you'll pay your rent

We need to understand how you'll pay for your rent throughout your tenancy.

You can select one or more income sources, including:

  • Salary or wages
  • Self-employment income
  • Student loans
  • Scholarships or bursaries
  • Family support
  • Savings
  • Benefits (alongside another income source)

You can select multiple income sources if you have them to show us how much you can afford.

For example, many students use a combination of maintenance loans, family support and savings, whilst workers may have income from jobs and projects on the side.

Verification
3

Verify your identity

To keep everyone safe and comply with UK regulations, you'll need to complete a quick identity check through Plaid, a trusted identity verification provider used by thousands of financial institutions across the UK.

You'll need:

  • A valid passport, driving licence or national ID card
  • A smartphone or webcam
  • Around 5 minutes

The process includes:

  • Uploading your ID
  • Taking a quick selfie
  • Completing an automated verification check

Most identity checks are completed in under a minute.

4

Confirm your tenancy details

We'll ask you to confirm information about the property, including:

  • Property address
  • Monthly rent amount
  • Lease start date
  • Number of dependants (if applicable)

In many cases, this information will already be provided by your landlord and pre-filled for you.

Most applications are completed in 5-10 minutes. We'll guide you through every step.

Financial review
5

Upload your bank statements

We'll ask for your most recent three months of bank statements.

These help us understand:

  • Your income
  • Your spending patterns
  • Your ability to pay your rent

Documents can be uploaded in PDF, JPG or PNG format and can come from any country or bank.

Alternatively, you can connect your bank through Plaid where the data will be downloaded directly.

6

Add a Responsible Third Party (if needed)

Some applicants may need extra financial support to meet our affordability thresholds.

In these cases, we'll ask you to nominate a Responsible Third Party (RTP).

An RTP:

  • Is often a parent or close family member
  • Provides supporting financial evidence
  • Is not a guarantor
  • Is not legally responsible for your rent

We'll simply ask them to provide ID and financial documents to support your application.

7

Authorise your credit check

As part of the application process, we'll perform a soft credit check through leading UK credit reference agencies.

A soft credit check:

  • Does not affect your credit score
  • Is only visible to you
  • Helps us assess your application

As part of your Rentmigo guarantee, if you want us to, we can also report your monthly rent payments to credit bureaus to help you build your UK credit profile over time.

Your decision
8

We review your application

Once you've submitted everything, our team gets to work.

We'll:

  • Verify your information
  • Confirm your affordability
  • Complete our compliance checks
  • Make a decision on your application

We'll keep you updated by email throughout the process.

9

Get your personal quote

If approved, you'll get a personalised Rentmigo quote.

The cost of a Rentmigo guarantee is between two weeks and one month's share of the rent, depending on your circumstances, and will never be more than one month's rent.

This is a one-off fee that covers up to three years from the start of your tenancy at that property.

Once your tenancy starts, the fee becomes non-refundable as Rentmigo has assumed the role of your guarantor.

You're ready to move in

Once your guarantee is in place, your landlord can go ahead with the tenancy knowing they have the protection they need. No family guarantor. No complicated paperwork. No stress. Just a simple way to secure your next home.

Our fee is between two weeks and one month's share of the rent, depending on your application, and will never be more than one month's rent. You pay it once, and it covers up to three years from your tenancy start date. There are no renewal fees, no subscription, and nothing more to pay in year two or year three, even if your tenancy rolls on month to month.

Once the tenancy has started and Rentmigo has become your guarantor, the fee is non-refundable.

Yes. If you move property you can apply again later. However, you would need to restart the process, as the new tenancy, landlord and rental amount will have to be approved in our system.

No problem. You can start an application yourself and we'll send your landlord an invitation to join the process and approve the tenancy.

Once we have all your documents, we aim to have a decision for you within 24 hours.
